Over 400 Thanksgiving meals given to needy families in PHFC-sponsored event

The Presbyterian Home for Children continued our mission outreach partnership with nonprofit Mentoring in New Dimensions, or M.I.N.D., this week by helping sponsor two Thanksgiving meal donations in the Black Belt.

More than 400 Thanksgiving dinners were given to families in need in the Pine Hill community of Wilcox County on November 22 and in the Dixon Mills community of Marengo County on November 23.

The Home was one of the sponsors of the drive-through meal giveaway along with area churches and surrounding businesses including BancorpSouth in Pine Hill.

M.I.N.D. Director Brooks Thomas brought together community donors and volunteers for the meals.

PHFC President and CEO Doug Marshall attended both giveaways and had special help from former PHFC Board Trustee Christie Cummings from Selma who joined Marshall on the trip to Pine Hill.

The Home’s Director of Development Jennifer Braxton and Manager of Development and Donor Relations Carl Martin came to help in Dixon Mills and saw a lot of smiles and gratitude from the precious children and families who came through the drive-through event.

“Our focus has always been about caring for and loving children, and it was truly our blessing to give out love and Thanksgiving food to children and families in Marengo and Wilcox counties,” Marshall said. “It was our blessing at the Presbyterian Home to participate.”
