PHFC CEO Doug Marshall featured in podcast

Doug Marshall, President and CEO of the Presbyterian Home for Children, joined Samford University marketing student Noah Letcher for a podcast recently to share the heart of the organization, its mission, and the incredible impact it has on the lives of children, youth, young adults, and families.

The Presbyterian Home for Children is a beacon of hope, celebrating 155 years of service as a place of refuge. Doug shares that the mission is a place of healing, providing a path of hope for precious lives. The organization focuses on nurturing, equipping, educating, and ultimately helping each individual develop into the fully functioning person that God created them to be.

Doug’s Role and Personal Connection: Doug reflects on his role as a mirror, reflecting the love, compassion, and professionalism of the dedicated staff. His responsibilities span programs, operations, finance, accounting, development, and HR. Doug sees his role as a support system for the staff, ensuring their success, and in turn, the success of those entrusted to the care of the Presbyterian Home for Children.

He recounts heartwarming experiences, from water fights with teenagers to snowball fights during a snowstorm, emphasizing the joy and healing present amid challenging circumstances.

Impactful Stories: One touching story highlights the transformative impact the organization had on a 14-year-old girl who had endured extreme trauma and neglect. The girl, acting much younger than her age, experienced her first birthday party ever, organized by her fellow residents.

Doug also shares a poignant moment when Miss Alabama’s presence provided comfort and connection to a girl who struggled with sensory overload. These stories exemplify the power of love, support, and genuine care in helping children overcome adversity.

How You Can Help: To support the mission of the Presbyterian Home for Children, donations are crucial, and the organization encourages regular contributions. Additionally, there are opportunities for individuals, churches, and organizations to get involved by volunteering, forming partnerships, or spreading awareness. Doug emphasizes the importance of building relationships, engaging with the community, and making a difference in the lives of those who need it most.
