Two groups of Spire Energy employees visited the Presbyterian Home for Children last week to volunteer their time as part of the company’s annual Day for Good program.
A team of 10 came to the Home on Wednesday, Sept. 22 to landscape, trim trees, pressure wash buildings and more. Another group of 10 came on Thursday, Sept. 23 to clear trees along Ashland Highway in front of the PHFC Thrift Store.
Jonathan Schniper, Manager of Energy Efficiency and Retention at Spire Energy and member of the Home’s Junior Board, said the crews included Spire employees from several departments and locations in Anniston, St. Clair County, Birmingham and Pell City.
Ashley Mitchell, Manager of Strategic Projects at Spire, said the employees chose to spend their day of volunteering at the Home because of a strong relationship with the Home’s President Doug Marshall, who used to work at the gas company when it was Alagasco and worked alongside many of the workers.
Leonard Casey Jr., Director of Pipeline Management, said they brought heavy equipment they use to install pipelines to the Home to move trees and brush for their Day for Good task and give back.
“It’s been a lot of work but gratifying work,” Casey said. “I’m glad we can do our little part to preserve this campus.”
