The Home enjoys a historic covenant relationship with the three Presbyterian Church (USA) Alabama presbyteries: North Alabama Presbytery, Presbytery of Sheppards & Lapsley, and Presbytery of South Alabama.
In January 2024, the Home established a new covenant agreement with the Synod of Living Waters which includes these Alabama presbyteries, East Tennessee Presbytery, Holston Presbytery, Mid-Kentucky Presbytery, Mid-South Presbytery, Middle Tennessee Presbytery, Mississippi Presbytery, St. Andrew Presbytery, Transylvania Presbytery and Western Kentucky Presbytery.
The Board of Trustees (BOT) consists of five trustees representing each of the three Alabama presbyteries to total 15 trustees. Each presbytery nominates and elects trustees to fill open terms. The BOT elects 10 additional trustees to total 25. Each trustee serves a three-year term with the option to be re-elected once to a second consecutive term. Stated meetings of the BOT are held on the first Tuesdays of February, May, and October. The PHFC fiscal year is July 1–June 30.
