The Presbyterian Home for Children is hosting three Sweet Home Soirées in 2022 to bring fun galas, live music and auctions to three cities in Alabama and raise funds to support programs that provide services for children and families in need.
There will be a Soiree in Birmingham on April 2 at The Club, in Huntsville on April 28 at The Burritt and, for the first time, in Mobile on June 23 at the Mobile Country Club.
The Home will honor important individuals who have made an impact in our ministry at these events.
“The Soirée gives the Home the opportunity to recognize those individuals who have been faithful and impactful ministry partners enabling the continuing care of the precious children and youth entrusted to our care,” said Doug Marshall, president and CEO of the Home.
The Home will recognize the Rev. Tom and Patti Winter, longtime leaders in the Presbytery, at the Birmingham event.
The Home will recognize Joanne Horn, a member of First Presbyterian Church of Huntsville, at the Huntsville event. She and her late husband Lou have been generous and devoted supporters of the Home for many years, Marshall said.
The Soirée will honor Rev. Samford Turner, who has had the privilege of serving as Executive Presbyter of both the Presbytery of South Alabama and the Presbytery of Mississippi. He and his wife, Carol, have been generous and devoted supporters of the Home for many years, Marshall said.

Presbyterian Home for Children in Talladega, Alabama, is one of few organizations in the state caring for Alabama’s homeless boys and girls, along with their female caregivers in its Secure Dwellings Program. In its Moderate Residential Care Therapeutic Program, the Home also serves teenage girls who have previously experienced extreme trauma or neglect. In addition, the Home serves young female adults in crisis through its Transition to Adult Living Program and families in crisis over seven counties through its In-Home Intensive Services, Family Bridges. Our Ascension Leadership Academy features a fully Cognia-accredited academic curriculum focusing on academics and leadership for our residential children and youth in addition to children and youth from the community.
