The Presbyterian Home for Children (PHFC) has again received a top rating for operational excellence and integrity from the nation’s leading evaluator of charities.
The Home, located in Talladega, earned a coveted Four-Star Rating from Charity Navigator, a designation achieved by only one in four charities. After an extensive evaluation, the Home earned high marks for financial efficiency, sustainability and trustworthiness, as well as its commitment to sound governance practices.
The Four-Star Rating designates PHFC as an official “Give with Confidence” charity, indicating that the Home uses its donations effectively based on Charity Navigator’s criteria. Charity Navigator has been an unbiased and trusted source of information for more than 11 million donors annually.
PHFC President and CEO Doug Marshall said the Home is proud to open itself up to be evaluated by an outside organization like Charity Navigator.
“In a world where it’s hard to determine what is real and authentic, this recognition from Charity Navigator shows our community, our donors – and most importantly the children and families who seek healing and hope at the Home – that we are and can be depended upon to remain a stable and well-run organization,” Marshall said. “But more than that, it shows that the Presbyterian Home for Children is an organization with financial integrity and transparency.”
Michael Thatcher, president and CEO of Charity Navigator, said, “We are delighted to provide the Presbyterian Home for Children with third-party accreditation that validates their operational excellence. The Four-Star Rating is the highest possible rating an organization can achieve. We are eager to see the good work that the Home is able to accomplish in the years ahead.”
PHFC Board Moderator Mark D. Feagin praised Marshall, Controller Sam Allison, and the board’s Finance Committee, anchored by Newell Witherspoon and David Perry as Chair and Vice Chair, for the Home’s strong and positive results.
